Home Buying Guide
Buying a home involves several professionals and decisions. This guide gives you practical questions to take to the right person. It is general information, not legal, mortgage, tax or investment advice. Ask your conveyancer, lender or a suitably authorised financial adviser about your circumstances.
Before you offer
Clarify your budget and funding with your lender or regulated mortgage adviser. Check what is included in the sale and ask the estate agent about tenure, known alterations, chain position and any conditions attached to the offer.
After an offer is accepted
Instruct a qualified conveyancer, review the mortgage offer and consider an independent survey. The conveyancer arranges and explains legal searches; the lender’s valuation is for the lender and is not a full condition survey for you.
Useful checklists
- Questions to ask your conveyancer
- Questions for your lender or mortgage adviser
- What to look at during a viewing
